It hasn’t even been a full day since the completion of the New York Mets sale to multi-billionaire Steve Cohen and he has already made moves that are significant improvements. He went into the front office and cleaned house: general manager Brodie Van Wagen, special assistant to the GM Omar Minaya, assistant GMs Allard Baird and Adam Guttridge, and player development director Jared Banner have all left the organization.
Talk about a shakeup! It is not a surprise though, as the Mets' front office has been horrendous for a long time. These are the first steps needed to turn the organization into the contender Cohen wants it to be. Get the losers out and bring in smart, capable, and innovative minds to get the Mets to the promise land.
Do not be surprised if there are more unexpected moves, both to the roster and organizational structure, this off-season. Cohen is here and he means business.
For the sake of a good time, lets take a look back at Brodie Van Wagen’s time as general manager:
Cano/Diaz trade
Signing Jed Lowrie over DJLeMahieu
Marcus Stroman trade (no playoff appearances)
Not trading Zac Wheeler during 2019 season
Porcello/Betances/Wacha signing
