Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 102nd international goal and earned his 100th win with the Portuguese national team in a 7-0 demolition of Andorra. Ronaldo, who started on the bench, was brought on at the start of the second half and scored his goal in the 86th minute from a close-range header.
Portugal dominated the match from start to finish, putting 14 shots on goal and possessing 83 percent of the ball. Andorra, in contrast, were unable to muster a single shot.
Ronaldo’s goal was significant in that it places him seven goals away from tying the all-time record for international goals. That record is currently held by Ali Daei of Iran, who scored 109 goals from 1993 to 2006 with the Iranian national team.
The next chance for Ronaldo to close the gap on the record is Saturday, November 14 when Portugal takes on France.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo will continue to be the focus of transfer news. His current club, Juventus, are rumored to want to offload his contract this summer after the conclusion of the Serie A season. Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United are the potential frontrunners to sign Ronaldo if he does indeed leave Juventus.
